Soil Review

Soil Review ( Grade 3)

Soil is made up of living and non living things
- how is soil created?
-earthworms, insects, pebbles, decaying plants
-wet/ dry materials
-clay
-silt
-sand
-loam

What soil is made of determines how well it can sustain life
-what can cause soil to not have the proper nutrients to sustain life?
- how can some plants grow well in certain soils but not others?

Soil is essential for life and gives nutrients for living things
-How is soil necessary for sustaining life for humans? Animals? Plants?
-Where does soil get it nutrients from?
-Can you give soil more nutrients? How?

Living things, including humans interact with soil and this causes positive and negative changes
-       How does poor soil affect human beings?
-       Can soil conditions affect erosion?
-       Erosion is can be caused by wind, water. It is also affected when humans cut down trees and plants, the plants no longer hold the soil in place which causes erosion.

-       Pollution – when humans pollute the water, air or soil  this affects the level of nutreients in the soil.  Some materials take a long time to decompose in the soil such as plastic and they don’t add nutrients to the soil. Some pollution can add harmful chemicals to the soil. Other materials that are biodegradable can add nutrients to soil when they decompose.
